Delta Days in Orange County (CA) May 29th - June 5th


Delta Days in Orange County, California (DDNOC-CA) is presented over a 8 day period. The weekend of May 29th thur May 31st, 2015 is a community organizing model to engage and collaborate with community groups and organizations around a relevant issue that impacts the community at large. The issue DDNOC-CA wil address in our inaugural year is 21st Century Policing. To address this issue, we will be holding a free Town Hall focusing on Effective Strategies for Community & Law Enforcement Engagemetn & Interactions. The goal is to help persons of color, especially our youth, to effectively engage with police and know what to do if they are stopped by police. Our keynote address will be given by Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) who is the immediate past chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and also the 21st National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She serves on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, is the Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, the Committee on Agriculture, the Subcommittee on Nutrition, and the Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research. 

Day 1 activities center around Chapter pre-event preparation and coordination.

Day 2 activities are centered around Organizing Commuities thru Community Engagement. Our Town Hall presentation on this day (May 30th) is limited seating. All participants must be registered and a free box lunch will be provided. Day 3 activites will bring together Orange County (CA) Alumnae Chapter members to take the call to action given us by Congresswoman Fudge and prepare to take the message to each city in Orange County.

Days 4 - 8 activies will take our Chapter members to each of the 36 cities in Orange County, California to speak with our legislators and elected officials to deliver our call to action message and build relationships across the county.

This event is in collaboration with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation.
